The saying has been that whenever America sneezing, the rest of the world catches a cold. It now looks like America has a cold and the rest of the world has pneumonia. How fast things have changed in the last seven to eight years. How much blame can Goerge W. Bush get for the current economic mess that were in. When you look at the facts, one has to say A LOT!

Another principle over the centuries is one called “guns and butter”. A nation cannot expect to see prosperity at the same time it is at war’ however, Bush has tried to do that and along with the help first of Alan Greenspan and now Ben Bernanke, we’ve manipulated the markets and now the market is doing its thing. And it’s not a good thing.

The facts are?

Eight years ago, the United States had a budget surplus! Eight years ago we had low inflation! Eight years ago we had a stable and strong economy. Eight years ago we had low gasoline prices. It’s hard to believe but the price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline January 2002 was $1.09 a gallon. And I won’t even go into the amount of federal debt that we owe, knowing that we owe China alone $1 trillion dollars says enough.

How much of all this is the fault of George W.Bush?

Harry Truman had a sign on his desk when he was president that read, “The Buck Stops Here”. And ultimately whoever is the head of whatever is that- the HEAD! What I do know is that the perceived arrogant cowboy from Texas who eight years ago said, “Bring It On” and we’ll bring the terrorists in ‘Ded of Alive” is but a shadow of himself. The office of president has a way of weighing down and bringing down even the strongest of humans.

History usually regards people a bit more kindly than the present does and in that sense, #43, can hope for better days, and hurry up January 20, 2009!

Nostalgia or Pop-culture? Cut-aways or dark comedy? While the evil, malignant infant is plotting to assassinate his mother in Family Guy, The big-boned foul mouthed Eric Cartman of South Park is feeding one of his enemies his own parents in a bowl of chili, (Yes, this actually did happen in an episode.) So, which show is better? Which show is more funny? While Family Guy has its shining moments (i.e. – the ’Where’s My Money’ scene,) South Park outshines Family Guy in every aspect of comedy genius.

While it is inevitable that Family Guy is a very popular show, it still remains tasteless, unfunny, and unoriginal.

You can compare and contrast each main character of Family Guy and you still come up with the same conclusion – They are the exact same prototypical family as The Simpsons’ main characters. The smart, sex-appealing mother in Marge Simpson and Lois Griffin, the fat, stupid drunkard in Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin, and the smart, gawky, dweeb of a daughter in Lisa SImpson and Meg Griffin. Not only that, but Brian Griffin, the dog of Family Guy, looks almost identical to Snoopy of the Peanuts. You can’t also help but wonder if Stewie Griffin, one of the most popular characters of F.G., is a direct rip-off of The Brain from Warner Brother’s 90’s cartoon, Pinky and the Brain.

As for the jokes and gags of the show, it is clear that the writers recycle every single joke that they have already used. Every joke is either a sexual innuendo, a flashback to something irrelevant to the plot, or a joke that goes on for a long period of time, which is supposed to make it funny. I once watched a F.G. episode in which Lois comes home to find baby Stewie on the roof. As she goes into the house to chastise Peter for letting such an event happen, Peter, trying to distract Lois, introduces a clip of Conway Twitty, saying, “Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty.” I smirked at first at the randomness, but the clip was just too much. The Conway Twitty gag went on for about 4 minutes of him just singing. The tastelessness of the joke left me wondering; are the writers of Family Guy seriously this lazy, or do they just not care?

So what makes the vulgar, offensive 9 year olds from the small town of South Park such a great show? I’ll tell you. Each episode has a meaning. That’s right. Aside from the vomiting, farting, dying, and bloody explosions, Each episode of South Park usually has a metaphorical interpretation installed. Whether its religion, abortion, global warming or politics, South Park provides something Family Guy never does and never will.

One of the most brilliant South Park episodes of all time came in season 13 episode 3 entitled “Margaritaville.” The episode parallels the story of Jesus’ death to the current state of the economy. As the economy begins to become worse, Randy Marsh (Stan’s dad) starts to preach untrue sayings about the economy, saying that spending less and being afraid of the economy is going to help the situation. When Kyle begins to get irked by his teachings, Kyle stars to preach that the economy is not evil or mean, and that everyone should just keep spending. Many people start to condemn those who spend excessively. While one man is publicly being stoned for buying little, unimportant items, Kyle preaches “let one who hasn’t bought a stupid thing throw the first stone.” Kyle proceeds to preach about the economy while Eric Cartman (Judas) turns him in to Randy Marsh (Pontious Pilate) for speaking blasphemy about the economy. During the end of the episode, Kyle and twelve of his followers are eating at a Pizza Restaurant. During the supper, Kyle explains that he has a “funny feeling that someone will betray him.” Eric Cartman then stands up and says that no one would betray him, saying that “whoever betrays him is an asshole.” This episode shows the true greatness of satirical comedy, displaying wittiness and jocularity at the highest degree.

While Family Guy brings a predictable plethera of jokes to the table, South Park gives viewers a sense of amusement and intelligence that Peter Griffin would never understand.

Sue forces the students to compete against each other, but the real showdown happens when she and Will get called into the principal’s office. Meanwhile, the Glee kids rally to support Quinn after some shocking news is revealed. Will pays a visit to an instructor of a competing Glee Club to see what information Sue may be leaking, which leads to the club getting a look at their hair-rising competition.

Will and Ken try to convince the football team they need a better attitude. If they can sing and dance in front of people, Will argues, the game will be easy. Puck is particularly opposed to the idea, but Ken thinks they have nothing to lose. Kurt takes center stage when he tries out for the football team in order to impress his dad. Sandy and Sue join forces to carry out their plans for destroying the Glee Club. Meanwhile, Quinn and Finn’s relationship is tested when they receive some life-changing news.

Glee is back to work on a new number and Sue is furious the Cheerios failed at bringing down the club: “I’m going to need you to smell you armpits. That’s the smell of failure.” Quinn tells Sue she taught her “when you really believe in yourself you don’t have to bring other people down.”

Finn helps Kurt get a tryout for the football team. Finn is not thrilled Kurt plans to use the music from practice in front of the team. At the beginning of practice Ken tells the guys their winless team needs a new kicker. Kurt fires up “Single Ladies” and begins with a few moves from the routine. Just as the football players start to laugh he drills it through the uprights. The team has a new kicker.

Will is missing Glee practices to work with Acafellas. Finn is mad at Rachel for pushing Will away with the choreography critique. The members of glee decide to hire Dakota.

Rachel and Finn have an argument related to their previous hook-up. She wants to bring in Dakota, even if it means Finn will quit. The Cheerios update Sue about their progress taking down Glee from within.

Glee has a great comedian that is Jane Lynch, a great voice that is Lea Michele,a great director that is Ryan Murphy and a great script that is so well done, and don’t forget the rest of the cast that are really unique like Artie, urt,Tina,Mercedes,Emma,Will,Quinn and Finn

Glee presents a nascent high school glee club ready to blossom with the right talent and encouragement. The lead characters from the adviser to the historically unpopular glee club members are genuinely engaging and attractive, albeit even as occasional subjects of hyperbole.

Why can’t he be true to himself? Everyone knows that if your mom is Gloria Vanderbilt and is a fashion designer, no way you don’t end up gay. In addition, Cooper has never expressed any interest in women. No one has ever seen him with women. When asked if he is gay he won’t admit it or deny it. Just come out Anderson already! How pathetic.

The Hollywood week of this season’s American Idol gave us some surprises. Unlike before, each of the 164 finalists was given the chance to choose to sing with or without an instrument. If they have the talent, they can pick up the guitar or play the piano. There was also no grouping of contestants this time. And second chances were offered. After their initial songs, the non-approved contestants were again asked to sing in a cappella, and the judges chose another few from them and asked them to move on to the final round, where they compete with the winners from earlier rounds. On the final round, all the aspirants were asked to sing with a band and back-up singers. Until the judges finally narrowed down their list to 50 contenders.

As always, it’s impossible to please everybody. Hollywood week’s new format had some good reactions and some bad ones. For one, viewers found the episode less exciting than the previous Hollywood weeks. But on the other hand, more talents were discovered and exposed as many chances were given to the contestants.

Among the scenes missed by the avid fans are the trio performances, the struggle of one person as he tries to squeeze himself into a group, the never-ending arguments late at nights and all those stuffs that used to be. Other viewers even found the episode boring. But the new format actually worked for some of the contestants.

Brooke White rose above others after displaying her skills in playing the keyboards. The judges were clearly impressed with her performance. Josiah Leming also got the Judges approval. This man, who lives in his car and sings with a British accent, did a rendition of Mika’s song “Grace Kelly” and immediately awed everybody, gaining him a spot in the top 50.

On the next episode of American Idol, the judges will choose 24 semi-finalists from the 50 contenders. To find out who will and will not make it, keep on watching the hit talent series.
