The Hollywood week of this season’s American Idol gave us some surprises. Unlike before, each of the 164 finalists was given the chance to choose to sing with or without an instrument. If they have the talent, they can pick up the guitar or play the piano. There was also no grouping of contestants this time. And second chances were offered. After their initial songs, the non-approved contestants were again asked to sing in a cappella, and the judges chose another few from them and asked them to move on to the final round, where they compete with the winners from earlier rounds. On the final round, all the aspirants were asked to sing with a band and back-up singers. Until the judges finally narrowed down their list to 50 contenders.

As always, it’s impossible to please everybody. Hollywood week’s new format had some good reactions and some bad ones. For one, viewers found the episode less exciting than the previous Hollywood weeks. But on the other hand, more talents were discovered and exposed as many chances were given to the contestants.

Among the scenes missed by the avid fans are the trio performances, the struggle of one person as he tries to squeeze himself into a group, the never-ending arguments late at nights and all those stuffs that used to be. Other viewers even found the episode boring. But the new format actually worked for some of the contestants.

Brooke White rose above others after displaying her skills in playing the keyboards. The judges were clearly impressed with her performance. Josiah Leming also got the Judges approval. This man, who lives in his car and sings with a British accent, did a rendition of Mika’s song “Grace Kelly” and immediately awed everybody, gaining him a spot in the top 50.

On the next episode of American Idol, the judges will choose 24 semi-finalists from the 50 contenders. To find out who will and will not make it, keep on watching the hit talent series.

The first Results Show of American Idol’s season seven sent four hopefuls home, leaving only 20 finalists behind to stay on FOX’s hit reality TV talent search. After singing their hearts out, two male and two female were eliminated from the show. They males were Garrett Haley and Colton Berry , while the females were Amy Davis and Joanne Borgella.

The episode started with all the 24 contenders belting out a medley of songs, all from the 60’s. One segment of the show also featured Paula Abdul’s newest music video.

The first elimination was a fast and easy one. Host Ryan Seacrest asked Haley to come to the stage and then bluntly told him that he’d be heading home. Haley can be remembered as the one who sang Niel Sedaka’s “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” during the Top 12 Male Performances episode. His rendition of the song didn’t impress any of the judges that night. Simon even told him that he needs some fresh air and sunlight. And in a very rare event, Randy agreed with what Simon just said.

Colton Berry, on the other hand, was pitted against Chikezie Eze first before he received the news that it was also his time to bid the show goodbye. Simon frankly told him that he doesn’t see a musical career in Colton ’s future. Simon also advised him to find a day job instead and just sing for fun. On the top 12 Male Performances episode, Eze sang Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds.”

The first female to receive the bad news was 25-year-old Amy Davis. She sang Connie Francis’ “Where the Boys Are” on the Top 12 Female Performances episode.

Joanne Borgella and Amanda Overmyer stood beside each other until the second female to leave the show was announced. Plus-sized model Borgella was the unfortunate one. Her rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “I Say a Little Prayer” on the Top 12 Female Performances episode certainly didn’t please anybody at all.

The American Idol Seattle auditions will absolutely go down as the worst in the reality show’s six year history. The whole thing turned out to be an absolute car wreck from the outset, without really any great performers and a whole slew of terrible, awful, unbelievably bad singers. Seattle is actually known for its musical sensibilities and this is one reason that the episode was so disarming. Whether or not Seattle’s true talent level was really on display is unknown/ What is known is that those who did show up for the audition were a bunch of freaks, no-talent weirdos who I wouldn’t let into my home.

However, millions upon millions of Americans do allow these freaks into our homes every time American Idol lets us. Does this say something about us as a people? Why do we gain such pleasure out of watching others suffer through brutal bouts of humiliation? Maybe its all in good fun and the ends justify the means when these people are ridiculed into never singing for anyone ever again. Simon, Paula and Randy are getting meaner as the seasons wear on, which is understandable. They have become desensitized to the awfulness of the contestants and don’t care anymore about the feelings of others. I don’t begrudge them for this, but it can be almost painful at times.

The Seattle auditions will, hopefully, be the lowlight of the season. Or, highlight, if that’s your thing. The remaining audition episodes will surely be better, and one would think to a large degree. Regardless, I’m glad the nightmare that was Seattle is over.

On the previous episode of Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious, 25-year-old Carrie from Fairfield , Illinois was sent home because Robin Antin believed she would be better off as a solo artist than as a member of the group. Carrie took her elimination well and said she would be moving on with her rock and roll thing.

Meanwhile, the episode 8 was all about Public Image. Members of the final five were challenged to convince the press about their public image and were forced to conceal their differences. The contestants all participated in interviews for radio and for TV as well. They were put on the spot by JoJo of KIIS-FM and by Mark McGrath.

Being in the contest this far made some of the girls realize that it would be much better if they try to set aside their differences and work on being a better group instead. They try to straighten things out but one of them doesn’t accept the peace offering.

Natalie and Chrystina are still indifferent to Charlye and Tiffanie. Right after the elimination, Natalie and Christina locked themselves inside their room, excluding themselves from the other girls. Both were excited when they learned that this week’s challenge was about Public Image.

Robin Antin told the aspirants that they would be performing “How Many Times, How Many Lies” and “Buttons.” During rehearsals, Kenn Hicks told Chrystina that she better harmonize with Tiffanie.

In their interview for a local radio station, Tiffanie told the DJ that they were working happily together. They were also asked to sing a cappella, wherein Chrystina fumbled with words while the others did well.

In the end, Natalie won the competition. The girls talked and decided to fix their relationship with one another but Charlye said she doesn’t want to bond with people whom she doesn’t click with.

Charlye and Chrystina were placed in the bottom two. But surprise, surprise! No one was eliminated. Everyone will be part of next week’s finale.
